2012 Festival

Tasmanian's 5 Days of Innovation Festival will be held for a week at the end of May.  Celebrating innovation in all its forms across Northern Tasmania, events will showcase innovative practices in business, art, food, technology and primary industry.

Monday 28th

Breakfast Launch
When: 7am - 9am    Where: Grand Chancellor
Kick off the 2012 5 Days of Innovation Festival with the Breakfast Launch, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Graham Mitchell - Principal of Foursight Associates. Dr Graham is the Chair of our Science and Research Sector Advisory Committee and a joint Chief Scientist of Victoria.

Q&A Small Business
When: 2:30pm - 4:00pm    Where: Grand Chancellor
Local small business experts will discuss matters relating to innovation for small business growth. This is a must-attend event for all small business owners and will feature live social media feeds, virtual participants and a panel of experts answering all of the hard questions about your business.

Tuesday 29th

Innovation using Social Media & becoming Digital Ready for SME workshop
When: 9:30am-12:30am    Where: Grand Chancellor
Interested in social media? Want to expand the influence of your business? Then this is the seminar for you. Speakers will discuss the benefits of using social media in business, provide how-to demonstrations and outline strategies for social media success.
Digital Ready is an initiative of the State government aimed at increasing Tasmanian business participation in the digital economy. The program is being run by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts. There are many compelling reasons for businesses to be online. Understanding the benefits and being aware of the pitfalls should be part of a sound overall business strategy. The workshop will cover a number of key areas for effective online operation and will have a close look at the growing area of social media for business.
Foodies & Shakers Forum

Tasmania is rich with potential, and we've produced some high profile successes – we also know of many innovations and ideas that lie around in the bottom of a shoebox. Where's your idea? If it's still in the box or just taking shape this forum could be for you. For more information.

Wednesday 30th

Mumpreneurs Start-up Innovation Workshop
When: 9:30am-11:30am    Where: Grand Chancellor - Seminar room
Run exclusively for women, this seminar talks women through all the ins and outs of creating an innovative microbusiness from home. Covering how to work out if your idea can make money, how to get from idea to sale, using social media effectively to build your brand and how to achieve a harmonious work/life balance. If you are a stay-at-home mum with big ideas this is the seminar for you.

Junior Big Ideas Club

Junior Pitch Club lets budding entrepreneurs pitch their big business ideas. Do you have what it takes to win Junior Pitch Club?

Pitch Club
When: 6:30pm-9:30pm    Where: Grand Chancellor
In Pitch Club participants go head-to-head against each other to see who has the best pitch for a new business. Pitch Club aims to connect people with new business ideas to people with business knowledge and potential investors – this is a great opportunity for people with big ideas to test them out in a public forum and gauge potential interest.

Thursday 31st

The Great Debate: Can the digital future save the current economy?
When: 11:30am-2pm    Where: Grand Chancellor
Participants will vigorously debate the value of technological innovation and whether it is the saviour of business or just another fad. Not to be missed, the debate was one of the most popular events of the last festival, and this one is shaping up to be equally exciting.

Innovation in Dance and Light
When: 7pm-10pm    Where: Grand Chancellor
Launceston’s own Stompin youth dance group will perform with local photographer Jasper de Seymour to create photography and special lighting effects, a must see for everyone who enjoys the new form of Art.

Saturday 2nd

Harvest Market, Cooking Masterclass and Treasure Hunt
When: 9:30am-11:00am    Where: Harvest Market
The festival concludes with a celebration of innovation in food and distribution systems. Harvest Launceston farmers market will be the scene of a produce treasure hunt featuring local and national celebrity chefs who will conduct a masterclass using fresh Tasmanian ingredients on site at the markets. This will be followed by a gala lunch under a marquee at the markets.
